Constructions Library
The constructions library category will allow you to create and manage construction types that specify the thermal properties of surfaces and sub-surfaces in a building. Each layer of the construction is a material name listed in order from “outside” to “inside”. There are two types of constructions: Fenestration which transmit solar radiation and Opaque which do not. Up to nine layers may be specified for opaque constructions and up to seven for fenestration constructions. “Outside” is the layer furthest away from the zone air (not necessarily the outside environment). “Inside” is the layer next to the zone air. Outside and inside air film resistances are never given as part of a construction definition since they are calculated during the EnergyPlus™ simulation. Note also that constructions are assumed to be one-dimensional in a direction perpendicular to the surface they are assigned to.
